What exactly is KD/20 Wellness?

KD/20 Wellness is a nurse owned organization that is dedicated to helping clients navigate their health. Our mission is to assist clients in achieving their health and wellness goals by gently guiding towards self-actualization. We do so by helping clients identify and overcome barriers to meeting those goals through a collaborative, individualized partnership.

One client at a time, we work to help you unlock your inner potential. In doing so, we hope to create a domino-effect that will remind our communities that health is about more than simply the absence of disease.

What does "KD/20" mean?

KD/20 is inspire by 2 interpretations of the 80/20 lifestyle with a fun play-on-words utilizing founder Katie Dienes's initials, thus becoming "KD/20". Our unique name represents our unique approach to health and wellness.

What is an 80/20 lifestyle?

There are various interpretations of what 80/20 living entails. Here at KD/20, we operate on a blend of 2 of those interpretations:

  1. The 80/20 diet, developed by Australian nutritionist Teresa Cutter, suggests that 80% of the time we are nourishing our bodies with healthful foods, while 20% of the time we allow ourselves the gift of guilt-free indulgence. Though originally developed regarding dietary choices, at KD/20 we extend this concept beyond the realm of food, as it can be translated into other areas of our life just as valuably.

  2. The Pareto Principle, developed by Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, states that 80% of outcomes result from 20% of causes. The idea behind this principle is to put your greatest effort into those few actions that will maximize your results.

In combination, we begin to see that we can successfully achieve our goals without demanding perfection from ourselves by learning how to shift our attention to what can have the greatest impact in our lives.

At KD/20 we encourage just that: never perfection or overwhelming change, just the dedication to live the healthiest life that you deserve while making the small, necessary adjustments along the way to make it happen!

What is a Health coach? Does it differ from a Registered Nurse Health Coach?

A health coach serves as an extension of a client's healthcare team. Through a collaborative process with their client, a health coach focuses on holistic wellness to help clients reach their goals and overcome barriers to meeting those goals. They pay special attention to each area of health including food, fitness, stress, and more.

A registered nurse health coach functions in a very similar capacity as a health coach, with the added benefit of more in-depth, hands on clinical experience and training. RN Health coaches are well-equipped to help more medically complex clients understand their medical care and treatment plans, teach and encourage patient advocacy, clarify confusing structures within the healthcare system, collaborate with the medical team, explore evidence-based, holistic self-healing modalities to supplement your current conventional care, and so much more.

Health coaches, RN or not, are a 1:1 support system and often the missing link that many patients so desperately seek and need to become well.
